Working closely with the COO and Procurement Managers at one of South Africa’s largest manganese mines I have gained insight and first hand experience with how data affects managerial decisions. I have ran many projects including tenders, software improvements, and new system implementation.
Diesel fuel is one of the easiest operating expenses to optimise. Using real data for 50 trucks over 5 years I developed 5 machine learning algorithms to predict fuel usage of a given truck. Models were able to predict fuel within 8% accuracy demonstrating real application for the industry.
Artificial Intelligence has spread like wildfire across the globe with many relying on it daily for tasks and assignments. Countless data centres get built to benefit the user, but who ends up paying the price? This is the exact question I am investing while co-authoring a paper with our findings.
